I think that at some point, most people have felt lost trying to be the person they think their crush wants. This song is about wanting more than anything, to be the one that they love, but not knowing who or what they want you to be in the first place, as well as not knowing why you even want them. They don't see you, don't love you, and yet you fight this ongoing struggle, battling with the effect of that confusion.
